Dakota County is located in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. It was named for a local Native American Tribe.
The seat is Hastings, while the largest city is Eagan. It is bordered by the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers.
It borders Ramsey, Washington, Goodhue, Rice, Scott and Hennepin Counties in Minnesota, as well as Pierce County, Wisconsin.
Main highways include I-35, I-35E, I-494, US-52, US-61, MN-3, MN-13, MN-19, MN-50, MN-55, MN-77 and MN-149.
